Kerry calls to concede; Bush is gracious while reigning from on high
Osama bin Laden called the White House to congratulate his candidate on the victory.
This is also a victory for the irrational* and the poorly educated, both of whom vote Republican as though it were a reflex action.
And to the college kids who voted in numbers barely larger than last election: enjoy paying off Bush's deficit for the rest of your life while having the specter of a draft bearing down on you.
So, now we'll have a conservative Supreme Court tearing down civil rights and allowing the increep of theocracy; we'll have a Republican Congress passing whatever they want in the way of protofascist corporate governance; and we'll have a President who makes mistakes as often as most people drink glasses of water, whom every other country in the world despises except Iran and Russia, and who enriches his cronies while running the most secretive Administration in history.
When I do my "what's next" entry, I'll cool down so I can keep this sort of Bush-bashing to a minimum, but I can't do it now.
This is going to have some ugly repercussions for our increasingly weakening democracy.
* Regular readers know that "irrational" means "religious," but also refers to others who go against reason, such as psychics, cultists, and so on. In this context, it mainly refers to church-going irrationalists.

There were more youth voting and getting involved this election- but there was more of everyone voting and getting involved....
I wish more youth would have come out and voted. But you know.... it's bad enough that we have to deal with Bush another 4 years... and it seems every site I have gone to today and last night have been blaming the youth, and one of those places people were even saying the youth deserved to get drafted and die in a war.
How can we fix anything by blaming eachother? The youth vote was split 50/50 just like everyone else...
Plenty of older adults out there don't give a shit either... this isn't the youth's fault.
This is the fault of the media, for no longer doing their job, and the fault of millions of Americans that are too lazy to figure out the news themselves and blindly call for this man to have 4 more years simply because he really looked like a leader in that flight suit, smiling under that "Mission Accomplished" sign.
This is the fault of American stupidity. I am so upset right now.

Good comments, Arianna. I think others were blaming the youth a bit more directly than I was here; my comments here are more along the lines of "Since you did nothing, prepare yourselves to accept the consequences." A fine line, I suppose.
As far as the media is concerned, all we can do is support honest media (I think CNN is the best of a weak lot for cable; CBS for networks), and such information/entertainment outlets as Air America Radio. Unless you're wealthy enough to start your own station, support is all you can do. That, and spread the word on Fox "News." (I bought a copy of "OutFoxed," and loaned it to my sister, who has loaned it out to others.)

I'm almost hoping for something horrible to happen, so that these idiots will see how much they fucked up, voting on morals over facts. I was watching ABC all night and one of the commentators on there who is of Middle Eastern descent said that America is closer to Saudi Arabia and Nigeria than other industrialized countries as far as mixing religion and politics is concerned.
That should frighten the whole lot of us.
At the same time, I wasn't surprised especially since the House of Saud is best friends with the House of Bush. They may pray differently but it's all to the same bloodthirsty, war-mongering god.

I know you weren't directly blaming us... as I said... I was very upset, and I still am. I am young, and was in complete denial about the complacency and ignorance of the majority of Americans. I gave my hopes up. I really did.

Don't give up hope...but do hold on. Consider it like a four-year tornado. Oh, your arms may get tired...

Thanks... It's going to take some mourning... and probably a lot of drinking this weekend... but by next week I'll definitely feel a little better... Today is the day reality slapped me in the face, is all.
*hugs for anyone who feels like I do*

Even though it goes against the post here... not all "religious" are without reason.
The fact that you rant against the "religious right" and their lack of intelligence underscores the lack of comprehension of the dem. party as a whole regarding the makeup of our country.
The fact is that the US has a spiritual heritage/backbone and this must be addressed and not just yelled at. The majority of christians who are not pro-bush were backed into a corner because they were not given a moderate democrat to support. Offer a mod. dem. and you would see a different result.

Kerry WAS a moderate Democrat. The "most liberal Senator" was a lie that I've debunked here and has been widely debunked, though not enough in the mainstream press.
The religious are not "without reason." Only the profoundly retarded or psychotic are that. No, religion turns people against reason in many ways. Not every way, of course--reality has a way of making its presence known to even the most devout kneeler.
I haven't really had a chance to go over my thoughts on religion and similar issues in any systematic way. It's been something I've been meaning to do, and now that the election is over perhaps I can work on that.
